3 October 2011
SPICY ice cream and beer shampoo will be among the products making their
debut at this year’s Llangollen Food Festival (October 15 and 16).
Hamper Llangollen 2011 is held at Llangollen’s Pavilion venue, home to the
world-famous Musical Eisteddfod, deep in the heart of the beautiful Vale of
Llangollen in North Wales.
The annual culinary spectacle is in its 14th year and has gained a
reputation for attracting exciting, independent producers from across
England and Wales.
Among those will be Mon ar Lwy, an award-winning ice cream maker from
Anglesey trialling Hellish Relish, an ice cream “sizzling” with spices
and chilli.
And local brewers Llangollen Brewery will be selling soap and hair products
with its Welsh Black Bitter a key ingredient.
The festival features cookery demonstrations from TV chefs Dudley Newbery of
S4C, and Graham Tinsley from ITV’s Taste the Nation and chef director of
The Castle Hotel in Conwy.
New this year is the Real Ale Trail involving several hostelries in and
around town.
There will be presentations on honey and honeybees, jam making, the
different varieties of apples, growing salads, and olives and the health
benefits of olive oil.
Entry to the festival is GBP 5 but free for under 16s. Ale Trail tickets are
also GBP 5 and include five halves of real ale from participating
hostelries.
