The Montagu Arms Hotel Toasts to Successful Week of Awards
The past week has seen local four-star hotel, The Montagu
Arms in Hampshire, achieve two of the most prestigious awards in the hotel
industry and a nomination for one further award. Firstly the beginning of the
week saw the grand country house hotel win its Tripadvisor Certificate of
Excellence for another year, while the end of the week has seen the team at the
hotel in the finals for a prestigious Footprint Award before fighting off
further strong competition to be crowned the Considerate Hoteliers Sustainable
Food Award 2012 winners yesterday.
The Considerate Hoteliers Awards are one of the leaders in
sustainable and green initiatives within the industry, praising hotels looking
at ways they can minimise their effect on the environment now and in the future
and how supporting local businesses can have a wider benefit to the community.
The Sustainable Food Award, aims to recognise the hotel that
has gone the extra mile to support those local food producers, producing and
purchasing ethically, seasonably and sustainably before proudly presenting this
via their menu to dining customers. The Montagu Arms has an important and
friendly relationship with a number of local producers, taking an interest in
the production of the fresh fruit, vegetables, meat and fish they purchase,
whilst ensuring the utmost is done to limit any negative effects on the
environment.
James Hiley-Jones, Operations Director at The Montagu Arms
explains the delight of having all the hard work of the team recognised in such
a way:
“We are lucky enough as a hotel to be situated in the heart
of one of the most beautiful settings in the country. The New Forest National
Park is not only full of ancient woodland and stunning coastal areas but also
plays host to a diverse and abundant supply of local produce. Matt Tomkinson,
head chef at The Terrace Restaurant, and the team at The Montagu Arms are keen
to utilise this on the menu at the Montagu Arms. We are able to source our
seafood from local fisherman whilst much of our meat comes from suppliers
around the county. Similar processes are used when selecting our salad, fruit
and vegetables, however we also try to grow as much as we can in our kitchen
garden, we even have a few chickens to provide the eggs we use on the menu!”
Matt Tompkinson – Head Chef – The Montagu Arms Hotel
The Considerate Hoteliers Award comes on the back of a
number of other awards achieved by the team at the Montagu Arms including, a
Michelin star and three AA rosettes for the Terrace Restaurant along with
accolades from the Best Loved Hotels Group, an entry into The Good Hotel Guide
2012 and the Certificate of Excellence 2012 awarded by the worlds largest review
site Tripadvisor - all demonstrating the way that the Hotel has managed to
marry sustainability with the highest levels of customer comfort.
