Camper Stew

When I was younger and did not have the desire to sleep in a comfortable bed on a night, I did do some camping. I remember one time going off with a friend in his dad old army tent that had no front to it. We had no stove but actually were going to cook on a open fire and well do everything as basic as we could. It all started off well but then the British weather had its part to play and the rain came down, we was soaked. Also everything around was soaked and we could not light a fire. So we improvised with a tin can stuffed full of straw that we took from a famer barn. Now I am not saying that any one should do this, in fact I would heartily recommend that you do not. But necessity being the mother of invention you do get some good things out of it and I got this, camper stew

You will need.

1 pack good pork sausages

150g/5oz small button mushrooms

4 rashers smoked back bacon, roughly chopped

1 garlic clove

1 large onion

1 carrot

1 large leek, sliced

1 tin of  tomatoes

4 tsp tomato purée

1can cannellini beans, drained

1can kidney beans, drained

1 baguette

Some water.

Now the thing is really just use what you have at hand heat it up and eat it , and I was always hungry when I went camping , so everything tasted great.

Start in a frying pan to cook your sausages and bacon in the same pan. Add the onions, carrot, mushrooms and garlic. Let it all cook for a while so your sausage start to go brown. Then add the tomato, tomato purée and some water if you need to and let everything come to a boil.

Now whack in the tinned beans, leek let this all heat up so it is nice and hot. Camp fire mark 7 I think.

Finally take it of the fire , rip chunks of bread off the baguette, and remember what it was like when you was a kid and ruffing it was a big adventure.
