Royal Wedding Cake Makers Create Bespoke Coronation Cake
CORONATION CAKE IS ROYAL WARRANT HOLDER’S CROWNING GLORY
Bespoke Coronation Cake Created for the Coronation Festival
The UK’s leading manufacturer of baking ingredients,
Renshaw, has worked in collaboration with the team behind the Royal Wedding
cake to create a bespoke Coronation cake in celebration of the 60th anniversary
of The Queen’s Coronation.
As a Royal Warrant Holder for its almond products, Renshaw
is one of over 200 companies taking part in the Coronation Festival at
Buckingham Palace this July. Created in partnership with Fiona Cairns Ltd, the
four tier Coronation Cake will go on display at the grounds of Buckingham
Palace during the three day celebration event taking place 11th – 14th July.
The Fiona Cairns bakery, which was responsible for the cake
designed and produced for the wedding of Prince William and The Duchess of
Cambridge in 2011, have created this special cake. Designed in the classic British style
associated with the brand, the Renshaw Coronation Cake features the flowers of
the four nations; English rose, Scottish thistle, Welsh daffodil and the Irish
shamrock.
With a variety of decorative elements, the crowning glory of
the creation is a replica of the Sovereign’s Orb, which The Queen held at her
Coronation in 1953 to represent the Monarch’s role as Defender of the Faith and
Supreme Governor of the Church of England.
Taking three days to make, with every detail completely
created with Renshaw sugarpaste and marzipan and piped by hand, the Coronation
Cake features elements of the Coronation Coach and the abstracted Fleur de Lys
inspirations from the crown.
Renshaw was granted its first Royal Warrant for its almond
products by King George VI in 1950, followed by The Queen in 1955. Group
Finance Director, Mike McDonough, who currently holds the Royal Warrant on
behalf of Renshaw, said of the Coronation Cake:
“Renshaw has been providing products to the Royal Household
for over sixty years and we’re delighted to be a part the prestigious
Coronation Festival event. Working in collaboration with the Fiona Cairns
Bakery brings together two brands with royal heritage to produce a cake fitting
of the occasion, which all visitors will be able to see at this summer’s
event.”
Fiona Cairns Ltd Design Director, Rachel Eardley, said of
the commission: “We are delighted to have designed a bespoke cake in
association with Renshaw, especially for the Coronation Festival.
There are many icons associated with the Coronation but we
have chosen to create a tiered cake that reflects our style and skills as well
as complementing the occasion.”
