Winners Of Whole Foods Market Great Plates Competition Announced!
Ten winners have been chosen in the Richmond Great Plates
competition to celebrate the opening of the new Whole Foods Market in Richmond
on 8th October 2013. Organised by local charity School Food Matters, the
competition was open to all Richmond students who were asked to design a plate
reflecting the theme "Things I can grow and eat".
From nearly 700 entries, the judges selected the ten final
winners from a shortlist of 100. "There were some stunning designs from
children ranging in age from four to 15 years old", said Larry Hadley,
Store Manager at Whole Foods Market Richmond and judge. "Carrots, peas,
cabbage, and strawberries were all popular choices and the winners made them
come to life in very imaginative ways." Larry was joined on the judges
panel by Zac Goldsmith MP, local chef Paul Merrett, Blue Peter Gardener, Chris
Collins and editor of Richmond & Twickenham Times, David Rankin.
The winners are:
Tabitha Ellis (11 years) from Lowther Primary School, Arjan
Singh (5 years) from Chase Bridge Primary School, Barnaby Honeywill (10 years)
from Radnor House, Michael Collier (15 years) from Clarendon School, Lucie
Doggett (6 years) and Caitlin Petson (8 years) from Bishop Perrin CE Primary
School, Rose Saied (9 years), Dixie Liddell (8 years), Isaac Barton (8 years)
and Lauren Lauchlan (9 years) from Hampton Junior School.
Each winner will see their designs made into real plates and
featured in store as a piece of permanent decoration from October. In addition
Carlisle Infant School, Hampton Junior School, Bishop Perrin CE Primary School
and Clarendon School have been awarded a prize of a year's supply of organic
fruit and vegetable plants for their school's allotment for submitting the most
entries.
Zac Goldsmith MP said, "The judging was extremely
difficult because of the hard work children had put into their designs, and
because the quality was so high. I want to thank everyone who took part, and
congratulate the ten winners. Whole Foods Market will begin life in Richmond
with uniquely colourful walls!"
