The Goose, Hen, Duck and Quail That Laid the Golden Eggs: Blackacre Farm Eggs Awarded Five Golds in Taste of the West

It was a clean sweep for Blackacre Farm Eggs at the Taste of the West Awards this year, with owners Dan and Briony Wood picking up Gold Awards for their entire Free Collection, including their brand new Dabbling Free goose eggs. Judges described the goose eggs as “simply delicious – very mellow with a great depth”, while also commenting on the unique packaging, saying that the “eggs would make a really lovely gift.”

The quality of the packaging was commended across Blackacre Farm's entire Free Collection and the judges “really liked the story behind the eggs”, while the appearance of its Rambling Free hen eggs was thought to be “very individual, a lovely mixture of colours, some speckled and some plain, which the judges thought was fantastic.” The Somerset-based producer's Waddling Free duck eggs “certainly had the wow factor”, as the “big yolk from each egg looked stunning”, while its Foraging Free quail eggs were described as “rich and creamy”, with a “grassy flavour.” Blackacre's Naturally Free organic hen eggs completed the set when judges declared them to be “a truly excellent egg”, meaning that all of its products received top marks in a year that sees the Taste of the West Awards celebrating its 25th anniversary.

These awards are the latest in a host of accolades for Blackacre Farm Eggs, which has struck gold with its commitment to providing love, care, freedom and fresh air for all of its birds, going above and beyond industry standards to produce a truly exceptional range of products.

Dan Wood, managing director of Blackacre Farm Eggs, explains; “It's a wonderful feeling to have all of our products awarded the highest rating in Taste of the West this year and very exciting to have our new Dabbling Free goose eggs receive such a well-respected stamp of approval so soon. Our five Gold Awards are testament to the quality and taste that can be achieved using traditional farming methods, so I hope they provide a boost for independent family-run farms across the south west and beyond.”

Blackacre Farm's eggs are available exclusively from independent retailers, including delis, farm shops, butchers and grocery stores across the UK.
