Golden Stars for Golden Yolks: The Traditional Free Range Egg Company Lands Five Great Taste Awards

With the Great Taste 2016 results just announced, The Traditional Free Range Egg Company, formerly known as Blackacre Farm Eggs, is now celebrating, as all five products in its Free Collection have been awarded stars from the world's most coveted blind-tasted food awards. Better still, with just 141 products achieving a 3-star Great Taste award out of 10,o00 entries in this year's competition, The Traditional Free Range Egg Company is the only egg producer to be featured in this select list, with its Waddling Free duck eggs achieving the highest possible rating.

This is the second year in a row that the Waddling Free duck eggs have been awarded a 3-star accolade in Great Taste, with The Traditional Free Range Egg Company's owners, Dan and Briony Wood (pictured above), delighted with the judges' comments, which included; “Incredible rich yolk. Real sweetness and length of flavour” and “The only thing missing is sourdough toast!”

After achieving a 1-star Great Taste rating in 2015, the Somerset-based free range egg producer's Rambling Free hen eggs went one better this year to scoop a 2-star award, with judges heaping praise upon the egg's “incredible colour yolk and faultless white”, commenting on how it “stands on its own without seasoning.” Dan and Briony's Foraging Free quail eggs were also awarded a 2-star accolade, being described as “all you would look for in a quail's egg”, while their Naturally Free organic hen eggs and brand new Dabbling Free goose eggs landed a 1-star Great Taste award a piece.

Dan Wood, managing director of The Traditional Free Range Egg Company, says; “It's hard to express how proud we are to have our entire Free Collection awarded Great Taste stars this year and we feel that this is a direct reflection on our commitment to traditional farming methods. More and more egg producers are using increasingly industrialised means to produce free range eggs, but we've stuck to our guns as we believe that more traditional methods provide a better environment for our girls and helps us to produce exceptional quality eggs. Having just rebranded this month to show our support for independent family farms using traditional methods, this is the ultimate stamp of approval from the most respected food accreditation scheme around. Our haul of Great Taste awards is a real boost in our mission to ensure a sustainable future for family-run farms producing free range eggs using the traditional flat deck method and should help us to educate consumers on the difference between these and other free range eggs, such as those produced in multi-tier systems.”

The Traditional Free Range Egg Company will be exhibiting at Speciality & Fine Food Fair on stand 2220/c from Sunday 4 to Tuesday 6 September and its eggs are available exclusively from independent retailers, including delis, farm shops, butchers and grocery stores across the UK.
