Shepherds Purse Cheeses Served at Roving Restaurant
Thirsk-based artisan cheese maker, Shepherds Purse has been
selected by sustainable catering company, The Laden Table, to host one of its
12-month, 12 location dinners outside its Yorkshire dairy on April 27. The roving restaurant will be holding dinners
in unorthodox locations close to the physical proximity of the origin of the
food served to guests, giving diners a unique sense of closeness to what they
are eating.
The brainchild of passionate foodie and sustainable living
champion, Nicola Dixon, The Laden Table aims to reconnect people who love
eating great food with the great people who produce it. Each of the 12 meals in the nomadic Dinner
Series is a collaboration with local food artisans and farmers to provide a
meal cooked by local chefs who have been selected for their passion and
commitment to the provenance of the ingredients they source and use.
Shepherds Purse produces a range of award-winning
traditionally handcrafted cheeses using cow's, ewe's and water buffalo
milk. From its small cottage industry
beginnings, the cheese maker has gone from strength to strength and is still a
family run business, with founder Judy Bell's daughters Katie and Caroline now
at the helm.
The company has won dozens of awards over the years with its
cheeses being taken on by specialist delis and major supermarket chains, as
well as being a mainstay on many cheeseboards served up by top hotels,
restaurants and pubs.
Renowned Yorkshire chef, Andrew Pern of the Star Inn has
been chosen to create a stunning 3 course menu for the dinner inspired by the
cheeses in the Shepherds Purse range, including best-selling Yorkshire Blue and
Olde York.
Nicola Dixon, The Laden Table said: "The Laden Table is
about inviting people to gather in a communal place to connect and share both
the meal and the inspiration behind it.
We have some inspiring venues lined up in great locations, including
orchards, barns, vineyards and even on a beach.
Shepherds Purse was chosen because it produces an amazing range of
cheeses and continues to stay true to its artisanal roots."
Caroline Bell, director, Shepherds Purse Cheeses said:
"We are delighted to be chosen by The Laden Table to be part of their
unique dining experience. It's fantastic
for diners to be able to enjoy a first class meal cooked by a top Yorkshire
chef within a few feet of where the theme ingredient has been lovingly
produced. We will also give diners the
chance to tour the dairy and see first hand how we hand craft our cheeses from
the finest milk sourced locally."
