The Indie Farmer Sets Out On Indiegogo Crowdfunding Road Trip To Help Independent Farmers And Small Food Producers
Nigel
Akehurst, farmer's son, photographer and founder of startup online magazine
indiefarmer.com, based in Hackney London, is going on a six week UK road trip
on his 125 Vespa scooter 'Veronica'. The aim of the trip is to connect a
growing audience of people who care where their food comes from, with
independent farmers and small producers. Nigel will visit and showcase these
'indie farmers' via a series of interviews and picture stories on his blog and
a special print edition of Indie Farmer launching in late autumn.
Crowdfunding
campaign
To help
support the trip and the first print edition of Indie Farmer Nigel is
crowdfunding £5,000.00 via the world's largest crowdfunding platform,Indiegogo,
to help cover some of the road trip costs, creating the first print edition of
Indie Farmer and growing the community. He has put together a number of rewards
or perks for would be contributors, from a coffee table print journal with
highlights of his trip to hampers boxes featuring independent food and drink
products, such as postcode honey and craft beer.
Departing on
his six week tour Thursday, 31st July 2014, Nigel has an outline itinerary
planned but will be taking suggestions via his website and social media
channels on the best independent farmers, fisherman or artisan food makers to
visit. His six week journey will take him through Kent, Sussex, Hampshire,
Dorset, Devon, Cornwall, Somerset, Gloucestershire into Wales and then further
north into Yorkshire and into Scotland.
Interested in
submitting farmers or food artisans to visit?
Nigel is
particularly interested in stories of new entrants, starter farms, female
farmers, family farms that are carving out a niche for themselves, supplying
direct, organic, rare breeds, organic, market gardens, agri-tourism, speciality
products and anyone connected to food and farming who thinks what they are
doing deserves to be celebrated.
