The Seriously Scrumptious Apple & Cider Weekend (Saturday 27th - Sunday 28th September)
Following the
unprecedented success of its debut last year, the hugely popular Apple &
Cider Weekend is set to return to The Shops at Dartington on Saturday 27thand
Sunday 28th September. With free entry
(10am – 4pm) this celebration of the West Country's much loved tipple is set to
be a fantastic weekend for all, brimming with family fun.
Throughout
the two days Pomona, the mobile apple press operated by theatre group Common
Players will be pressing locally grown Devon apples, with visitors able to
purchase the mouth-watering fresh juice from the pop-up cider bar. There'll be plenty to keep the whole family
amused, with enjoyable apple themed games and competitions including treasure
hunts for the children, children's entertainment, jugglers, a bouncy castle and
live music all planned for the weekend. Talented local crafts people will also
be demonstrating their skills and running hands-on activities such as learning
how to throw a pot with Crazy About Clay and leatherworking at the Tanner Bates
workshop.
To tempt your
taste buds during your visit there'll be a wonderful selection of regional food
and drink producers showcasing and offering samples of their artisan products
in the recently opened 'The Food Shop'.
Bursting with homemade cakes, artisan fresh breads, premium locally
sourced meats, regional ales, ciders and wines, tasty cheeses and tempting
treats, this foodie destination is just waiting to be explored.
Enthusiastic
home-brewers and home-bakers will have the opportunity to show off their skills
in an array of exciting new competitions.
With fantastic prizes including a £100 The Shops at Dartington gift
voucher for the best overall entry, competition is sure to be fierce. If you're a passionate home-brewer or a keen
jam and chutney maker then make sure you head on down to The Shops at
Dartington on the Saturday. All you need
to do is bring your scrumptious cider and tasty jams and chutneys along on the
day to the Courtyard by 10am, for your chance to claim victory. Sunday will see The Shops at Dartington's
'Homemade Apple Pie' and 'Homemade Apple Cake' competitions, if you fancy your
chances then enter your perfected home-bakes by 10am in the Courtyard.
For those in
need of refreshment during the weekend the cider bar will be serving The Shops
at Dartington's two new organic Devon ciders, Dartington Organic Vintage and
Organic Cider Devon Blush. Produced
using apples from local orchards within a five mile radius of the Dartington
Estate, these delightful, fruity and lightly carbonated ciders are crafted
using pure apple juice from more than 15 wonderful bitter sweet and bitter
sharp apple varieties, which are pressed using traditional methods and then
slowly fermented.
