Summer In A Gluten-Free Sausage

Debbie and Andrew Keeble are stalwarts in the sausage business and HECK is their second sausage venture - their first, the popular Debbie & Andrew's, went pear shaped after being bought by a bigger company and the couple walked away last year.  The move has given them the freedom to go back to the kitchen table and start again, this time making sausages with their four grown up children, Jamie, Guy, Roddy and Ellie.

Being a small, independent producer once again means they can call the shots, be more creative in the kitchen and stay true to their own recipes, ideas and integrity.  The company names comes from their 'what the heck' attitude to life - getting back up when life knocks you down and giving things another go.

No BBQ is complete without the majestic sausage but finding a brilliant banger without gluten can be a challenge. Step forward then the deliciously gluten-free HECK sausage company who have added two new recipes to their range that are perfect for summer: a square sausage that won’t fall through or roll off the grill and a  Mediterranean chicken sausage that’s lower in fat and calories.

Made in small batches in a production unit close to the family farm in North Yorkshire, HECK is a new independent sausage company from Debbie and Andrew Keeble (originally of the popular Debbie & Andrew’s range). The couple went back to the kitchen table last year to develop HECK alongside their four grown up children who are now firmly in the driving seat of the new business.  Their Fair & Square and Chicken Italia sausages join the company’s Family Favourite, Plump Pork & Apple and Heck 97% Pork recipes that are already on sale at Tesco and Asda.

With their genuine farming connections, direct links to their farms and their own homemade seasonings, The Keebles can control their recipes and what goes into them – all very lean British pork shoulder, gluten-free breadcrumbs, natural skins and no rusk, MSG or GM. Since going on sale, the family has been inundated with positive messages from customers – no-carb converts, coeliac sufferers and people wanting good sausages without the gluten who love their recipes.  HECK will soon be on the shelves at Waitrose too.

FAIR & SQUARE (4 x 100g patties, £2.99). Developed after a string of customer requests for a sausage with more staying power that wouldn’t fall through the BBQ grills or roll off the bread when making a sausage sandwich, these substantial little chaps are made with family’s trademark lean British pork shoulder and gluten-free breadcrumbs but skinless and square, so perfect for the BBQ or a sausage sandwich.  The recipe is inspired by the Lorne sausage, a favourite part of a cooked breakfast in Scotland.

HECK CHICKEN ITALIA (400g, £2.99). On a mission to champion chicken sausages (why should pork get all the glory?) these Mediterranean-inspired belters are packed with juicy British chicken breast and thigh, mozzarella, basil and sundried tomatoes.  Sunny summer wrapped up in a yummy sausage.  Naturally lower in fat and perfect for rolling into balls and chopping up into pasta and rice dishes.

HECK Fair & Square and Chicken Italia are available from Tesco stores nationwide.  Heck 97% Pork, Family Favourite and Plump Pork & Apple are available from selected Asda and Tesco stores nationwide.  Each £2.99 for 400g.  For more information, visit www.heckfood.co.uk.
