A Dressing To Remember - Scarlett & Mustard Add A New Dressing To Their Range

The Colonel’s Poppy Seed Dressing is a delicious bright vinaigrette with a difference: a sprinkling of poppy seeds adds a great contrast both in colour and texture. Great for salad leaves, olives, cold meats, tomatoes, avocados and asparagus, it also works well as a marinade for chicken or can be added to gravies for a more intense flavour.

Like all of Scarlett & Mustard’s dressings, marinades and fruit curds the recipe for The Colonel’s Poppy Seed Dressing has been inspired by members of co-founders Sandy and Julian’s families. This time it’s a rather special though, as the story behind The Colonel’s Poppy Seed Dressing is a remarkable tale of bravery, selflessness and heroism born out of an extraordinary coincidence…

When they met six years ago, Sandy and Julian had no idea of what the future held for them or of a historical connection between their families. Shortly after meeting they discovered that Sandy’s Grandfather, Lt. Percy Watson, and Julian’s Great Uncle, 2Lt. Thomas Pollard, both fought in the Leicestershire Regiment - “the Tigers” - in the First World War. They also discovered that they were not only in the same Regiment, but the same Battalion and were wounded within weeks of each other during the same campaign. Scarlett & Mustard therefore have a very close and personal connection to WW1.

So The Colonel’s Poppy Seed Dressing was conceived in memory of Sandy and Julian’s relatives, and indeed all those who have fought, been wounded or killed in defence of their country. Marking the centenary of the start of the First World War, it is a dressing that is not only different, but that will make a difference:

For every bottle sold, Scarlett & Mustard will donate £1 to the Royal British Legion.

Scarlett & Mustard would also like to thank Aspall and Hillfarm Oils whose Cyder Vinegar and Cold Pressed Rapeseed Oil are used in all Scarlett & Mustard dressings, and are part of the character of this dressing, for supporting this campaign.
