Do You Make An Award Winning Pie?

The British Pie Awards 2013, now in their fifth year, invite entries from all professional butchers and bakers to take part in the upcoming prestigious industry awards.

Judged by some of the countries most respected food writers, bakers and chefs; the awards comprise of twenty individual classes of pie – with pie makers competing to be crowned the ultimate ‘Champion of Champions’.

2012 was the most successful British Pie Awards ever. More than nine hundred pies were entered, from over one hundred and forty producers and judged by a panel of ninety experts.

The 2013 Awards take place in Melton Mowbray at the end of April 2013. This year judging takes place on Wedneday 24th April, and the top 3 pie makers from each class will be invited to an all new Awards Pie Lunch on Thursday 25th April, where the class winners and Champion of Champions will be announced.

In addition to the new Awards Pie Lunch for 2013, new classes have been added to the line up including three chicken categories and a brand new speciality pie class has also been launched – open to all sweet or savoury, gluten or wheat free pies.

The organisers, Melton Mowbray Pork Pie Association, feel sure the additions for 2013 will see the awards continue to go from from strength to strength,

Matthew O’Callaghan, Chairman of the Melton Mowbray Pork Pie Association, comments:

“We were absolutely delighted with the reponse from British pie makers in 2012. Looking to the future, the new classes for 2013 make sure that we are keeping abreast of industry developments and trends, and I’m sure we will see many entries in this area.”

Entries are now open. Closing date:  10th April 2013.  Further details and entry forms are available from www.britishpiewards.co.uk or by contacting Sarah Clothier, Secretary of MMPA, sarah.clothier@mmppa.co.uk
