The Alaska Seafood Challenge at Salon Culinaire
For the fourth year running, Alaska Seafood is supporting
the world class culinary event, Salon Culinaire, at The Hospitality Show, NEC
Birmingham. On Wednesday 23rd January,
top UK chefs will cook with Alaska salmon as part of an Alaska Seafood recipe
design competition.
During the challenge, eight accomplished chefs will have 30
minutes to create and present their chosen dish using Alaska Sockeye
salmon. The cook-off will take place in
the Live Theatre and industry experts will taste and consider each dish. The judges will be looking for innovative
recipes using Alaska Sockeye salmon as an integral part of the dish.
The competition is a great opportunity for young chefs to
showcase their culinary talents and is also a chance to educate up-and-coming
chefs about the origins of Alaska Seafood and highlight the sustainability
message.
Alaska is famous
around the world for its wild and sustainable seafood. In fact, sustainability
is so important to the State of Alaska it was written into the State
Constitution in 1959, mandating that 'fish...be utilized, developed and
maintained on the sustained yield principle'. The State's long-term involvement
has ensured continuous, wild and healthy harvests for Alaskans and consumers
around the world.
